About the role

Triade is building an integrated delivery squad for a Starburst Enterprise Platform (SEP) / Apache Trino engagement with a US enterprise client in financial services. This is one team supporting one customer — not a set of isolated contract hires.

The squad delivers across two tracks: the data layer (Trino federation and the Iceberg lakehouse) and the access and reporting layer (BI and the semantic layer). Materialized views on Apache Iceberg are the shared hand-off between them, so the two tracks work in step rather than in sequence.

What you will own

A hands-on lead. You still build — but you also set the reporting and semantic-layer direction on the Trino layer, own delivery standards and quality, and mentor the BI Developer(s).

  • Own the BI & Self-Service Enablement workstream, and set reporting and semantic-layer strategy on the Trino layer.
  • Lead and mentor the BI Developer(s); run design and quality reviews; own BI standards and QA gates.
  • Design, build, and optimise Power BI (and Tableau / ThoughtSpot) dashboards, KPI scorecards, and reports on the business semantic layer; maintain and enhance materialized views on Iceberg.
  • Partner with the Data Engineer and Data Architect on the data↔BI hand-off.
  • Translate business requirements into reports and visuals, and performance-tune dashboards, queries, and views.
  • Support go-live and UAT; publish BI results with trending; produce run-books and self-service enablement material; report weekly status.

What you bring

  • Experience — 10+ years in BI and analytics, including leadership of a team or a workstream.
  • Power BI, expert level — you know it in and out: DAX, data modeling, row-level security, performance tuning, and deployment and workspace management.
  • Semantic layer — design and govern the reporting and semantic layer on Starburst / Trino: how curated data products and materialized views on Apache Iceberg are modeled, published, and consumed by BI tools for self-service analytics.
  • SQL — advanced ANSI SQL, including complex queries and performance tuning against distributed (Trino) engines.
  • Sources — integrating BI with Trino, Teradata, Oracle, and cloud data platforms on AWS or GCP.
  • Leadership — setting BI standards and QA gates, reviewing work, mentoring developers, translating business requirements into a reporting roadmap, and working directly with stakeholders.
  • DevOps discipline — UAT, releases, Dev→Prod branch merges, and version control.
  • Communication — strong, with the ability to translate technical data into business terms.

Nice to have

  • Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300) — strongly preferred; our client is prioritising certified resources.
  • Working experience with Tableau.
  • ThoughtSpot experience — Worksheets, Liveboards, and TML — is a strong plus.
  • Prior delivery into a regulated financial-services environment.

How we work

  • Fully remote within the United States, aligned to US business hours — US Eastern preferred.
  • Daily stand-up reporting: Done / Next / Blockers.
  • Weekly status: summary of work delivered, hours utilised, next-week plan, and open risks.
  • Occasional travel to the client site or a Triade office as the engagement requires.

Compensation & engagement

  • Rate — USD 60–75 per hour, negotiable based on experience.
  • Engagement type — 1099 independent contractor. Initial term with extension by mutual agreement.
  • Work authorization — applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship, now or in the future. Triade does not sponsor or transfer employment visas for this role.
  • How to apply — apply directly through this posting.
